Women-only Photography Escapes by Shutterbug Walkabouts create a space for small groups of like-minded female photo-enthusiasts to spend quality time exploring the wonders of nature with their camera; a learning experience led by an attentive female photographer guide.

Your confidence with your camera will grow, your personal style and technique for taking photos will develop, and you'll gain an insight to post-processing techniques too. You will return home feeling accomplished by your achievements and an impressive collection of unique images to be proud of.

'Above and Below' in the Huon Valley - Women-only Photography Escape (self-drive, self-cater)

This Escape is a little different to others in our collection of Women-only Photography Escapes with a reduced participation cost. Why? Well, The large communal kitchen space at our accommodation allows the opportunity for participants to self-cater their own meals and refreshments for the duration of the Escape. Additionally, participants will self-drive or carpool. By request, return transfers from Hobart and between photo shoot locations may be available for a nominal additional fee.

The group size for this Escape is a maximum of 6 participants plus your female photography guide.

Overview

This Escape is a nature photography experience in the company of other female photo enthusiasts. You will spend time at the Tahune forest reserve and Airwalk, Hartz Mountains and Hastings Caves to develop a deeper understanding of photography and achieve stunning photos of the natural environment 'above and below' the earth's surface.

Discover, experience and photograph the forests, rivers, mountains and caves of the southern forests; a weekend dedicated to photography and improving your skills and techniques for nature, landscape and cave photography. 

The experience is further enhanced with after-hours access to Tahune Airwalk and an exclusive guided photo shoot inside Newdegate Cave* at Hastings Caves.

* In normal circumstances it is not permitted to take tripods into a cave, however, on this exclusive photo shoot, you will be permitted to take your tripod in. This means you can take your tripod inside with you to ensure sharp long-exposure shots in the low light.

The photography

Photography instruction comprises a series of tutorials, in-the-field guidance and individual instruction throughout the weekend with a number of photo shoots at various times. You will have the opportunity to explore techniques for long exposures, low light and night, landscape, wildlife, birds, close-up/macro and more. You'll explore techniques to achieve sharp images handheld, creative images while stabilising your camera on a tripod and using filters as may be desired too. Our focus is to connect with nature through photography while exploring the great outdoors.

• 3 nights accommodation at Tahune Lodge... on location at Tahune Airwalk. The Lodge is booked exclusively for our group. 
• Private solo-occupancy room with shared bathroom facilities; rooms are allocated in order of bookings received.

• All participation and/or entry fees for national parks, activities and attractions

Excluded

• Flights or other modes of travel to/from Tasmania
• Travel to/from the Tahune Lodge or between attractions and photo shoot locations (self-drive / carpool)
  
• Meals, refreshments and beverages (with the exception of welcome canapes on day 1, BBQ lunch on day 4 and light snacks during photo shoots)
  
• All personal purchases, including meals/beverages purchased from the Tahune Airwalk cafe
• Personal camera and equipment insurance (travel or other personal equipment insurance highly recommended)
• Travel Insurance
  

Exertion Level

• Easy to Moderate – Each photo shoot will be at a location reached by an easy or moderate walk from the vehicle.
• Some walks may be taken when dark or at pre-dawn (optional). Uneven paths, slippery rocks and uphill sections may need to be traversed.
  
• A moderate level of fitness is required for most walks, however, less-strenuous options may be arranged by request.
